Custom Tartan Waistcoat
Nothing quite sets a Highland outfit apart from the rest of the herd like a custom made tartan waistcoat. Whether cut traditionally on the bias (with the tartan on the diagonal, as pictured at left), or made with the tartan straight up and down, a tartan waistcoat adds an element of style and sophistication to any kilt ensemble. And it is a great way to showcase your tartan when you are not wearing the kilt, as well!
Our waistcoats are custom tailored right here in North Carolina from the finest Scottish woolen tartan cloth. We obtain our tartans from the top Scottish weavers, including Lochcarron, the House of Edgar, and D. C. Dalgliesh.
The cost of your waistcoat will depend largely upon the cost of the tartan material, which can vary depending upon the mill, the weight of the cloth, and whether it is available from stock or needs to be woven.
We can also make our waistcoats using customer-supplied tartan (we need a good yard of 54" wide material for most size men).
If you are ordering your waistcoat at the same time as your kilt, we will make both from the same cloth to ensure a perfect match! If you already have your kilt and wish to match the tartan, knowing what mill wove the cloth for your kilt will help us source the material.
Our waistcoats are individually tailored, so we can generally accomodate most reasonable requests in terms of cut, fit, pocket options, etc. The cost will range from approximately $175 and up, depending on the cost and availability of the tartan material.
